The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has planned to expand Sharia courts across the country and the proposal will be discussed during a meeting of the members on July 15
in New Delhi. Speaking to India Today, Jafaryab Jilani, a member of AIMPLB said, "Since 1993, the board has been setting up Dar-ul-Qaza (Sharia courts) to resolve marital disputes and other
issues before going to other courts. In the upcoming meeting we would be discussing about how to expand Dar-ul-Qaza everywhere in the country." "Wherever we have such courts, a Qazi is
appointed to solve marital disputes and other matters coming under sharia. If the issue isn't settled amicably here then the individuals can take the matter further according to their own wish,"
added Jilani. He also said that not more than Rs 50,000 is required to open a Dar-ul-Qaza and there is a separate committee within the board which works for it's expansion.
The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi has slammed AIMPLB for planning to open Sharia courts. "The organisation is just an NGO and there is only one law that everyone
has to follow. AIMPLB has a misogynistic approach and it has only exploited the Muslim women," said Tripathi. Samajwadi Party national spokesperson Juhie Singh also said there is a constitution in
the country which everyone is bound to follow. However, the party doesn't want to speak much about Sharia matters, added Singh. Responding to BJP, Jilani said, "The party has the habit
of interfering in every issue. The Supreme Court has also welcomed our initiative of arbitration. Our intention is not to stop anyone from going to the court. We just want the
matters coming under Sharia to be settled amicably if possible." Jilani also said that issues like Triple Talaq and Ayodhya dispute will also be primarily discussed in the meeting called on
