In recent years tourism has emerged as a major economic activity oriented towards geration of employment and a means to earn valuable foreign exchange. During the eleventh Five Year plan the projects
under tourist destination and tourist Circuit Scheme have been completed with an amount of Rupees 3832. The Asian Development Bank has approved Infrastructure Development Investment Programme for Tourism in Punjab for
Rs. 398 Crore. The work on projects at Amritsar Gurdaspur and Kapurthala has already been started The Government proposes to develop Ferozepur and Jalandhar Kartarpu as tourist destination. The Sikh Circuit
project with a financial assistance of Rs. 250 Crore has been got approved .The Government proposes to spend Rs 55 Crore to improve the facade of buildings from Hall Gate to
Darbar Sahib Amritsar .To encourage Tourism the Stae Government has notified a scgeme of Farm Houses and Bed and Breakfast Schemes Special efforts have been made by Government to preserve and
promote the culture o the state .The project for the formulation of the cultural heritage policy of the State Government has been taken up with UNESCO assistance. An amount of approved
for the conservation preservation of the projected monuments in the Punjab State out of which Rs. 25 crore has been released The State Government has started the construction of Entrance Plaza
in the forecourt of Sri Harmandir Sahib Amritsar at an anticipated cost of Rs.78 crores .The project is scheduled to be completed by Vaisakhi 2014. Punjab is the cradle of a
very rich civilization and culture and the breeding ground of great religious and cultural streams. It was here that the wisdom of the Vedas was given to the world unique scripture,
Guru Granth Sahib which contains hymns from saints and seers of virtually every religion and sect prevalent here at that time. Punjab is the land also of great heroes and martyrs
